When the Phoenix Force came to Earth for Hope Summers, the Avengers ignored Cyclops' warnings and tried to stop it. When Iron Man attempted to disrupt the Phoenix Force using his Phoenix Buster armor, it instead split the Phoenix Force into five and spread the cosmic entity between Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Magik, and Colossus. The Phoenix Five gained new outfits to go with their new powers.
